Choice of published template and alternative clauses, counterparty and main contact, workflow approvers, variable questionnaire, then a summary before generation.
A questionnaire to fill in, a live preview. The clauses and alternatives set by Legal.Your teams generate their contracts, Legal stays in control of the template.
Picklist defined in the template
The subcontractor question is hidden
You open the previous client's contract, replace the names, forget an amount. Errors travel from one contract to the next.
Each team keeps its own Word template. After a year, Legal no longer knows which version of the liability clause is in circulation.
Without a reliable framework, every simple contract goes up for review and waits its turn behind the complex files.
With Pactolane, your teams create a contract by filling in the questionnaire of a template published by Legal: variables, alternative clauses planned in advance and conditional logic, with a document preview updated live. This lets you automate the drafting of everyday contracts. On generation, the contract takes on the approval workflow attached to the template, with its approvers. Included from the Team plan.
Choice of published template and alternative clauses, counterparty and main contact, workflow approvers, variable questionnaire, then a summary before generation.
Text, number, date, checkbox, list, email, phone, address. A question can appear only depending on a previous answer, and be pre-filled from the counterparty record.
The published template serves as the stable version. Editing it puts it back into draft, while the published version remains usable: no contract in progress is disrupted.
In the editor, Legal sets the text, inserts variables and clauses from the library, provides for acceptable alternatives and attaches the approval workflow.
Publishing locks the template. The template's editors prepare the next version, with the commenters' remarks, without touching the one in use.
A salesperson or a buyer chooses the template, answers the questionnaire and reviews the preview. The contract is created, and its approval workflow is ready.
Rich formatting, tables, one-click variable insertion and track changes while drafting.
Search and filter by category, insertion into the template, alternatives offered at generation.
A variable is displayed only if another answer calls for it. The questionnaire stays short and relevant.
Company name, SIREN, address or contact taken from the counterparty record, with no re-entry.
Every publication creates a version. Compare two versions, restore the previous one as a draft.
Editor, commenter or viewer: Legal involves business teams in drafting without losing control.
Start from an existing Word or PDF template: its content is imported into the editor, ready for its variables.
The generated contract can be downloaded as DOCX or PDF, and the template can be exported in Word format.
To create a contract in Pactolane, you launch the creation wizard, choose a published template and, if it provides any, the clause alternatives, then specify the counterparty and its main contact. You then answer the variable questionnaire while following the contract preview, updated live, and check the summary before generating. The contract created takes on the template's approval workflow, with its approvers. See also our page on approval workflows.
A Pactolane template accepts variables of type short or long text, number, date, checkbox, picklist, email, phone and address. Each variable can be required, have a default value and help text, be pre-filled from the counterparty record or its contact, and be displayed only if another variable has a given value. The questionnaire thus asks only the questions relevant to the contract at hand.
An alternative clause is a variant of a clause that Legal has planned and accepted in advance, for example two price revision formulas or three liability caps. When the contract is created, the user chooses the original version or one of the alternatives from a list, and the preview updates. The choice of variants thus stays within the framework defined by Legal. Browse our clause library free of charge.
Editing a published template in Pactolane puts it back into draft, but the published version remains usable for creating contracts: contracts in progress are not affected. When the new version is ready, you publish it; the template history keeps every version, which you can compare or restore as a draft.
Yes, Pactolane can take over your existing Word templates: from the editor, you import a Word (DOCX) or PDF file, whose content lands in the editor, where you add variables, insert clauses from the library and attach the approval workflow. You can also duplicate a template to create a variant without touching the original. To get started with ready-made templates, browse our contract templates free of charge.
Yes, a contract generated from a template is then negotiated in Pactolane like any other contract: track changes, internal comments and mentions, and an invitation for the counterparty to propose changes via a secure link. See our pages on negotiation and redlining and collaboration.
